Do they remember?

I was asked to follow a friend to drop off a car to someone else, then to bring him back to his car. When we dropped this car off, I noticed a pit puppy that was about 8 months old, or so. He was white with a few faint black spots under the fur. His face actually reminded me of my Storm, although he was already bigger than her and about a year younger! I felt a tiny, little connection with him. Of course my automatic reaction was to go over & pet him, but I was precautious and asked if he was friendly (as we should with all dogs if we don’t know them). The owner of the dog shrugged his shoulders & said he’s ok I guess, plus he’s dirty. Well that wasn’t too reassuring to me, but I still eased my way over to the dog, talking softly to him, waiting to see a wiggle of the tail or the hackles stand up on his neck. Finally, his tail started to wag and then his whole behind was wagging. His ears were laid down and he looked up at me with those big, sad eyes. He gave me that look that Storm does when she tells me that all she wants to do is love, be loved, and get lots of petting. I played with this dog for a little while; it broke my heart knowing that he’s not treated nor loved as much as I treat and love my dogs.

As I was talking to the owner of the dog, it was brought to my attention that I had actually played with this pup & his brother & sister when they were baby puppies. They were soooooo adorable and big! The momma dog only had these 3 puppies in her liter, so you can imagine how plump they were. When I played with these 3 baby pups, this one kept jumping up to me and wanted so much attention. People always would pick the other 2 up because one was white with black spots and the female had perfect brown circles on her eyes, which was so cute. But I liked this one and played with him the most. If I had the means, I would have taken him, but there was no way I could afford another dog, nor give him ALL the attention he would need because of my other babies.

My point of this blurb is.... I wonder if he remembered me. Do you think it’s possible? Or do you think he was probably too young?

It's quite possible that he does remember you. Have you ever met a dog (pup) that you rearly see, yet when you do appear again, even if 6 or 8 months later, they remember.
My g/f's dog, whom I rarely see, as she doesn't take him socialising, see's me MAYBE once a year. You would swear it was only last week. Cindy can't get over how he remembers me and loves me... plus he listens to me.
My son's dog is the same, only of course he was raised by us when he was young, so I won't use that one as an example.
Another thing Andee, is you are an animal person and they can sense that. I've had wild animals come to me to everyones amazement. They must sense that I am not a threat.
The poor puppy, is he still looking to find it a home? Or is that the way he is keeping him? That puppy NEEDS affection and love! If you can't take it, perhaps you know someone with those qualifications to take him. Better than staying with that guy.
What I'd like to know is...with all this banning going on all over, why do people still breed pitties when there are already so many that desparately need homes before it's too late for them. We don't know where the next ban will be.

HELLO!?

What I'd like to know is...with all this banning going on all over, why do people still breed pitties when there are already so many that desparately need homes before it's too late for them.

Now your asking some responsible questions.... rite on!?

and they are breeding them w/ hip displesia(sp) and other emotional and physical defects.... that seriously dilutes the quality of dog... w/ no papers, nothing!

Come up w/ an answer to this delima and i'll jump on board... I think that is what the purpose of the ban is.... its a response to a 'people' problem that no one really knows how to fix... face it, 'we' the people have the responsiblity.... not the dogs.

And when 'irresponsiblity' begins to perpetuate itself umungst(sp) a culture... u have to cut it at the root unless someone has a SOLID - realisitic PLAN!?

Whats the plan!?

My bible says: without a vision, people perrish or cast off restraints... meaning they dont assume responsiblity. Out..

You would be suprised @ all the people that have not heard of BSL. Even people that breed these dogs. A lot of these "backyard breeders" breed them to make $$. They have no care what happens afterwards to the dog. The hip dysplasia & other health problems are due to in-breeding. These qualities become stronger & stronger the more the line is in-bred. They try to get good qualities, but don't realize that it's making things worse.

BSL is 'not' the problem as I see it? although it is a drastic measure to address another issue... it is clear to me as I step back and put this into perspective.... that the legislation 'however' apparently unfair it is... is not the real problem here. IMHO... btw: check this out.
