Eating grass!?!?!?!?
I'm just going to do a quick post today because I'm really tired and about ready to hit the sack. It's kind of a gross post, but as you read, does anyone have a clue what might have happened???
This morning around 2AM, Storm woke me up while she was hacking and trying to vomit. I jumped up & took her outside so that she wouldn't make a mess in the house & she was standing at the door anyway waiting to go out.As soon as I got her out the door, she started eating grass... and I mean eating grass, just like a cow. Sometimes, as with the Bostons, she'll eat a little grass here & there, then throw it back up which I assume settles her stomach afterwards. BUT THIS TIME, she ate grass for a constant 15 minutes or so... and I mean for at least 15 minutes!!!! I was so worried about her. She never did vomit, but she continued to eat and eat and eat grass. She did a little pooey and then went in.
This morning, she did her normal potty stuff, but still yet no vomit. She didn't do that until around 3PM today. When she did, it looked like a bird's nest because there was so much grass.
Poor girl, she had me so upset & worried, but she seems to be ok now. Anyone have any ideas why???

Aw...poor Storm. She probably wasn't feeling good. Sore tummy. :-( Hope she feels better today. They saw that dogs eat grass if they feel like they're going to vomit. Maybe it's like Gravol to dogs. Give her kisses for me.
AWESOME picture of the two of you, Sorry she is not feeling good .
Hey we looked for you and Storm
American Idol was in your home town on January 24th “Getting Lucky in Greensboro” You know there where some good ones there ,But the othere where not so lucky,We where so looking forward in seeing Storm om TV, feel better
as far as i know,
dogs or cats eat grass or leaves when they are SICK.
they know which grass to eat, it's some kind of herbs for them.
after eaten the grass/leaves, they will throw it up and rest for some days and they are back to normal again.
Sorry to hear Storm threw up, but wouldn't worry too much because I'm quite sure that by now Storm's all well again!
As they've said previously, most probably an upset stomach.
Keep smiling!
Instinctively, dogs and cats know their own remedys. Why do you think you aren't taking them to the vet as often as we go to the doctors? When they feel under the weather, they know what to do for themselves and back up on their feet in no time. Makes them sound smarter then us huh?! LOL
When I have a bad sore, I will wake up to Shasta licking at it for all get out. Who needs a doctor when we have these extrodinary dogs.
Get better soon Stormy. Shasta sends her love.
You both look so sweet sleeping together. *hugs*
Hi pitbulljungle, Storm wasn't feeling to well, but she's back to her rascally self now!
Sam I Am, I took Storm & Simon said she was too much of a superstar for American Idol! As for me, I can't carry a tune in a bucket!!! *giggle*
Hello Jellyfish! Storm is back to normal now, thank goodness!
Furkids! I think she must have ate something she probably shouldn't & made her tummy hurt.
Conners, you're right sometimes I do think they're smarter than us!!!!!!
Yes, some doggies eat grass when they need to "clean out" their digestive system. Pretty smart, and it worked! Wow, she is pretty and has brains too, hubba hubba!
That’s a very interesting question Amstaffie. The eating of grass by Storm is usually a normal behavior for dogs. I’ve also experienced this type of behavior when I had dogs many years ago . I was told then that they ate grass when they are not feeling well because it had some medicinal remedy. I’m not sure if there are any concrete studies out there to justify this or to explain the reason for this behavior. However, here are two of my theories on this type of behavior:
1. They have an upset stomach and eating the grass serves as an irritant that induce vomiting.
2. They might not have enough roughage (dietary fiber) in their diet so eating grass compensates for this. I said this because, only ruminants (animal that digests its food in two steps) which are all herbivores (animals that eat only plants) such as cows, goats, giraffes etc. have the enzyme cellulase in their digestive system that can break down and digest grass fiber (cellulose). Dogs or humans for that matter do not produce the enzyme cellulase in their digestive system and thus therefore, are unable to use most of the energy contained in plant material. So, the bulk of plant material serves as a roughage that helps move food along the intestine.
I hope this makes sense to you. Remember, I’m not saying this is a fact but just sharing my own educational reasoning here :)
Later :)
Where ARE you Andee??? I hope you are Storm are feeling ok. I worry when you haven't blogged for awhile and it's been a looong while!!!
Get back to us g/f!!!
*hugs*
Hope Storm is fine ...
Get well soon!
Hi Indy, Storm definitely cleaned out her system alright, I just wish she would have done it outside!
Hello R. Edmondson, that makes since. I always thought that the grass, being "sharp" on the edges in a since, irritated their tummies & made them vomit. I never thought of the other part you wrote, interesting!
Hi Connie, I'm alive. :)
Hi Robin, what a cute little pooch you are! Storm is being a silly girl again!
Everyone, my 'puter is acting up at home and has decided not to cooperate with me, so I had to log on here at work, which they don't like. So as soon as my home 'puter gets off this temper-tantrum it is throwing, I'll be back to blogging!
Until then... Take care!
Am glad Storm is feeling better. Mike has often referred to me as his bovine Labrador because of all the grass I eat sometimes. Hey, sometimes you're just in the mood.
Come on you two...it's time to wake up and start blogging. EVERYBODY misses you!!! Get that computer fixed and come back to us PLEEEEAAAASE!!!!
*hugs*
Conners and Shasta
I do hope all is well with you. Miss you :)
