Persecution
I was talking to a friend at work; he & his wife have 3 dogs, (their pics are also on my other website). He was telling me a little story about dogs in his neighborhood. Two of the dogs are pits. I've been around both of them. They are both great dogs. He keeps them inside and also has a fenced in back yard. If they take them walking, he is in total control of the dogs. But allowed to run loose in the neighborhood are two labs (or retrievers, I can't remember which now). But regardless, they were NOT pits. When his dogs are out in the back yard, the labs come running up to HIS fence and bark and growl at his pits. Of course his pits retaliate with barking back while secured behind a fence. Does the owner of the labs do anything about it???? NO. The labs are allowed to run free. They've even chased & bit a kid on a bike and chased a woman, made her fall, and messed up her knee. The lab owners did have to pay her medical bills, but the dogs are STILL there and STILL roaming free. What would have happened to the dogs had they been pits? After the first incident they would have been put down. Heck, if the pits were out roaming the streets, I'm sure someone would have called AC and they would have been picked up and probably destroyed.
Anyway... his new neighbors won't even talk to him because they think his dogs are going to bite her child. She acts like he's the devil because he has pit bulls as pets. Maybe that woman needs to hear the real story about those aggressive labs. And who do you think gets the dirty and disgusted looks from the neighborhood??? Not the terrorizing lab's owners, but my friend, just because he has two pits.
*Grrrr*

That woman had the owner of the labs pay for her medical expenses and was satified with that? She didn't think to call Animal Control stating that the dogs are always roaming at large. Of course not! They aren't pits!
Why does your friend not phone and report the owner for allowing the dogs to roam free and coming to his place and making nusinces of themselves at his place. At least let the owner get a knuckle rapping is better than allowing it to go on and the owner walking around like it's ok.
This is exactly what I don't understand about owners of other breeds. Do they THINK they are exempt of laws and bylaws and laws are only made for pitbulls? They are made for people with dogs, as in ALL dogs! HELLO! PEOPLE!
I have the same problem in my neighborhood. The idiots across the street have a Lab, and he really is a sweet dog, that runs loose day and night. He constantly comes over to my yard and aggravates the pure heck out of my Pit Bull, Bubba. The Lab actually wondered inside my other neighbors house, who incidentaly has a Pit Bull named Lucky (who is Bubba's daddy) and 3 chihuahuas, and Lucky ran him out, but not before having a nice little dog fight in the living room. My friends had their front door open due to the weather being so nice-they were not expecting a stray dog to come roaming inside their house. Needless to say, had my Bubba, or Lucky, being Pit Bulls, roamed around loose, or went inside the owner of the Labs house, Animal Control would have been all over us and our dogs, because they are Pit Bulls. It is breed prejudice, pure and simple. And it needs to stop. Dog laws should be inforced against ALL dogs, not just Pit Bulls, Am Staffs, Bully Breeds or the like.
