When will it stop?
For those of you that think putting a ban on pitbulls will solve all the vicious dog attacks, I ask you to click on the following link " Dog Breed Information and read the temperment for some of the following dogs:
Boerboel
Cane Corso Italiano
Fila Brasileiro
I have personally been around a South African Boerboel, Cane Corso Italiano, and a Fila Brasileiro. These dogs are beautiful, massive dogs and very loyal to their owner. They make great protection dogs, let's just say that I wouldn't want to be caught walking into their house if the owner wasn't around. I feel the only reason that these dogs have not become so popular as a pit is because they are very expensive and not readily available. But don't you think if pitbulls were completely outlawed that all it takes is for a couple of dealers or gangsters to go in together to buy a pair and breed them to sell and make $$? Then there it goes again... those beloved pets of responsible owners would be facing BSL against the Cane Corso or BSL against the Fila, etc. Get it?!?!?!? BSL is not going to correct the problem with irresponsible owners. It will continue to grow to another breed each and everytime a law has passed.

Let me tell you about a couple of horror stories I've heard and they didn't come from the net.
If 'the bad types' really want a dog, they simply throw them a piece of meat that has seditives in it. Once the dog goes down to sleep, they immediately gather it up and throw it in a van and speed off. The dog that you think is capable of looking after itself is at the mercy of these lowlifes as they know all the tricks.
Another one, is they take a sponge and soak it with beef juice, let it dry out and toss it ito a dog where they want to rob. the dog gobbles it up, the sponge naturally expands and chokes the dog to death. When criminals want something, they go for it no matter what means it takes.
So if they decided they wanted a preso canarieo or any of these other dogs, I doubt they would buy one lawfully, but instead steal them and then the back yard breeding would start, but now with these dogs.
If the law succeeded in getting rid of the pitties like they are trying, these criminals will do the same to much bigger, stronger dogs. Then the public would really be at risk, as even these dogs in the wrong hands would become dangerous.
That's why it is so IMPORTANT that we go after the proper criminals and they aren't the dogs!
A very well know motorcycle gang owned dogs, but illegally removed their dogs voice boxes. This way the dogs could not be heard to give warning. Instead, who ever was breaking in got attacked by surprise. Being all criminals, who were they going to call? The authorities? These are only a few that I have heard of, but sure there are plenty more tricks they use. We've GOT to get these evil people behind bars where they deserve. The dogs don't deserve this treatment and the public wearing blinders blame the wrong victims, the dogs.
Wait until they have 150 pounds pounce on them and start chewing. The public and the law makers better open up their eyes to who the real culprits are because it will become worse than better until they do.
Sorry Andee, didn't mean to vent in your comment box, but I can't understand why people can't use their brains to figure these things out when me with handicaps see it as plain as the nose on my face.
I'm with you 100%! I wish legislators (and others) would THINK instead of blindly running around. I've started sending letters & emails to legislators around the country as well as reporters who write about pit bulls. The dogs are not to blame, like conners said. It's the scumbag owners.
BSL is not the answer to the Pit Bull problem. Making irresponsible owners, dog fighters, and puppy mills responsible is a good start. Pits are exceptional animals, especially with children, but they learn everything to the extreme. They want to please their masters above all else, and unfortunately, some of these people have no business with an animal. If Pits were to be outlawed, the criminals would simply switch to Rottweilers....wait, they already have. Have you SEEN the media coverage on Rotts lately? The fact is, thugs need an animal as a status symbol, and they will switch from one to another, no matter what the concequences. The Dobermans and the German Sheppards were the focus in the 70's, and the Pit Bull has been the focus since the 80's. The Rotts are right behind them.
Bottom line is I wouln't have any other animal other that a Bully. Having had a Rott or two, a Pekingese, an English Bulldog, a Chihuahua, and *gasp* a POODLE, there is NO comparison to a Bully. And I don't want the right to have one taken from me. I have owned Bullys for 20 years, and they are the best "friends" that I have ever had.
